Sorry I'm sure this has been asked countless times-

I purchased a 3Gs about a month ago to replace my 1st gen. I'd like to give my mother the 1st gen. if she'd be able to use it.

She probably has a 3g sim card will that work?

She can't afford the data plan and we want to avoid any charges. She may accidently open safari, etc. Is there a good way to handle this besides just being really careful?

thanks! and please let me know if there's anything else I should be considering...

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_0 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7A341 Safari/528.16)

I don't think so unless there is something that you can do with a jailbroken phone. You may be able to play with the data roaming setting in General -> Network on the phone but I'm not sure that will help you.

Unlock the phone and just slip in the sim from her other phone. She could go with ATT or Tmobile. Tmobile is better and she might actually be able to afford their dataplan. Unless you want to get stuck in a new 2 year plan with ATT you must unlock. And its as easy as 1 2 3.

Oh, and KornyBoy, she can call the provider she picks and ask them to put a block on the data.
