Use a mid 2011 iMac as display for new Mac Mini.

Hey there, i have two 19" monitors connected to my mac mini (which are abysmal) The Mac Mini itself is about 2 weeks old, so yes. Thunderbolt enabled. But i also own a mid 2010 iMac (The current one).

I remember hearing something about how you could use an iMac as a Display for a another Mac by using the mini displayport connection between the two systems and setting the iMac in 'target mode'

Does this feature still work now that we are past displayport and are now using Thunderbolt instead?

Should work, although I think only the 27" supported it. I'm not sure how but I think there's a key combo you hit on the iMac to switch the screen to the video input. Control-F2 vaguely comes to mind but that's just a wild guess.

The Thunderbolt only stuff applies to the 2011 iMacs. They only work with Thunderbolt input while older Macs can only output DisplayPort (and DVI/HDMI/VGA). The older iMacs take DisplayPort input which the Thunderbolt Macs can output. You just need a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable to hook them up (vs a Thunderbolt cable for the 2011 iMacs).
