Use boxed product to activate trial?

I signed up for MM trial about a week ago, then bought the retail product a few days later at the apple store. Is it possible to use the activation code from that to convert my existing trial account to a full one? I already entered my creditcard info when I signed up for the trial and worried if I simply use the "skip trial" in MM it will simply charge that.

On a related note, does apple count the 60 free days against your first year when you activate? Not sure if you actually gain any extra time by waiting until just before the trial expires. Thanks.

Assuming it is the same as .Mac, when you begin the process of converting your account from trial to full you'll have the option of entering payment/credit card information or an activation code from the retail box.

To be safe, you might want to remove your CC info before starting the process, but the availability has been there in the past to use the retail boxes.

Nope. Wait until the trial is about to expire if you want to milk the most time out of it.

Really? Good thing I haven't opened the shrinkwrap yet. They guy at the apple store was pretty clueless about the whole thing when I asked. The reason I bought the retail version was for the $30 discount with iphone purchase.

I am still on my 60 day trial (now extended by 30 days - 80 left). I went into the page that said SKIP TRIAL (I just assumed I would be able to confirm without it really just charging my credit card). There is an field to place your Activation Code.

My plan was to purchase it when I get my 3G iPhone or purchase thru Amazon. I would be very suprised if I could not use the Activation Code from either of those sources. Are you sure that you are forced to pay the FULL Price via online activation thru Apple.

My plan is to continue to use it for FREE for 80 days and then apply the Activation Code.

That is incorrect. Inside the retail box is a code that can be used, not on it. The only thing in the box - aside from pointless marketing materials - is a code... it's what you pay for. You can either pay for it online or in the store. He isn't forced in any way to pay online just because he signed up for a trial online (the only way you can).

Several times I have personally opened a .Mac retail box and used the code to renew my account, and I've helped numerous others take their account from trial to full using the retail box.

This thread delivers. I was wondering the same thing as I have a Family pack coming but now have 81 days left on my trial!

Then I have no idea what you're saying. The OP asked if you can use the code in the retail box to take his trial version to a full version. You can, period. What you're describing as "email activation" is an option, but not the only one. Considering he already has a retail box, it would be a fairly silly one.

I used it

I used a code from a retail box I had for nearly a near (29$ from AMZN), and it worked fine.

I SHOULDNT have done the activation though, since at this point I could be sitting on nearly 120DAYS of free trial, and THEN use the activation code. I hope that Apple honors SOME type of extension for current users like this.
