I have a 2 TB Mercury Elite Pro which I'm using as a TM backup Disk. It's 2 x 1TB WD HDDs @ 5400 rpm and Formatted in a Hardware RAID 0
works well. The thing is:
I'm selling the iMac and have bought a Mac mini Server 2011 which I intend to run as a desktop for now (until I can afford my MacPro 2014
)
2 TB is overkill for the amount of data I have.
If I store data that I don't use very often in the TM partition, will TM delete that data at some future date when the disk becomes full?
My instinct tells me that only older TM backups will be deleted but I just want to check this out
If I partition the 2 TB RAID and have a discrete TM Partition & a dedicated Storage Partition, will this reduce the effectiveness of the RAID? I'm thinking especially in terms of Random & Sequential Read & Write Speeds. Would these be effected in an adverse way, I wonder?
My opinion is that a non-partitioned RAID will function better than a partitioned one.
