I still tag my songs the way iTunes tagged them a few years ago if its a song with feature artists (usually rap or R&B) i put keep the album artist and the artist as the same person, the main person on the song and put any feature artist in the song title as (feat. ____)

As using the Search Music feature can still locate songs by the feature artist, is there any benefit to adding featured artist in the artist tab?

How does everyone else handle this?

All depends on how you use smart playlists and search your library. I do the same as you.

this is HUGE for me now! most of the music i've been listening to has more than one artist. the next version of iTunes needs to let you add a second artist, like you would add a middle name to a contact on your iPhone. as of now, i'm just doing " artist 1 / artist 2"

I have a rather large music collection (~10,000 tracks and live concerts) and so I am very meticulous about manually labeling it. I never let iTunes do it automatically

This is how I label it:

Title:
Track Title (Secondary Title) [Remix Title]
Artist:
Main Artist feat. Secondary Artist
Album Artist:
Main Artist
I use "Various Artists" for compilation albums

Multiple artists was added in the ID3v2.4 spec. It works by using ';' as the separator. (artist 1 ; artist 2).

There are a few windows programs that support multiple artist tags. Both Foobar2000 and MusicBee support multiple tags in fields like Artist, AlbumArtist, Composer, and Genre. But have yet to find one for Mac.

Apple Muisc and iTunes for windows will just ignore the second artist.

Apple never seems to follow existing official standards. Always wanting to create new 'so called standards', forcing everyone else to follow them.
