We've recently changed ISP's and I want to make my iCloud e-mail address my primary Apple ID. However, the Apple ID website won't let me do this.

Thoughts/suggestions?

Apple won't let you change the apple id. Your only option is to create a new apple id with your iCloud email address. Just be sure you don't have your iCloud email address as a secondary address in your iCloud account

Yeah, what maflynn said above.

One would think that it would seem "natural" for Apple to encourage you to use your iCloud.com or Apple-hosted email address as your primary Apple ID. But apparently, this is not the case.

Since the birth of iCloud, Apple has strangely wanted people to use OTHER RIVAL email domains (e.g. Gmail, Hotmail, YahooMail) to be their primary Apple ID. Strange, isn't it?

It would be a little harder to stay anonymous with a one stop shop like you're suggesting. (I feel you though, and I wish they'd allow it.)

If a person wanted to stay mostly off the grid but still have an iPhone, well they're forced to at least pony up something to get yet another email address tying them in...and it all adds up.

I might not be making sense, but surely someone reading this will understand where I'm coming from on that.

there are a million post about this topic and why it makes complete sense to have unique emails for an Apple ID and iCould email.

Well, given that you are allowed to use an iCloud address as Apple ID if you sign up for a new account, I'm puzzled what those reasons might be that make "complete sense". I think it makes no sense at all.

I hope the fix this soon. I hate having another email just for my Apple ID.

I guess you don't know about how to do this. So just read the Apple Document Apple ID: Changing your Apple ID.

That doesn't work. I had an AppleID before I had my .Me account and it will not let me or other change the AppleID to my .Me account name. This is the error I get when I try to change it to my .Me

And a response I got

So yes, I do know how to do this, but it won't let me

So you tried add another email account and didn't work? Try logging in with your current Apple ID and add the alias email account and then change the the login to that new alias. See if that works.

I tried it all, and sometimes once in a while I will try randomly just to see of anything changed. Just being on here the last few years I learned I'm not the only one with this issue also.
