Use Mac as Apple TV 3 display?

Is it possible to use a Mac as an Apple TV 3 display? I don't want to view the Mac desktop on the Apple TV, I want to view the Apple TV desktop on my Mac.


I don't have an extra monitor yet, and want to update the software.

AFAIK none of existing Mac-s has HDMI input. Only iMac-s are able to act as displays in Target Display Mode, but they also require DisplayPort/Thunderbolt as connection. aTV does not have any of them.
You may be able to find a converter, but IMHO this all together looks more complicated and expensive than a cheap HDMI display.
