In beta 1 we saw the addition of the option to use the side switch to trigger lock rotation. In beta 2 said option seems to be gone.. Was it ever a feature?

It was a feature. Apple said so in the Keynote.

Actually, the option was to use the switch to lock rotation, thereby preventing rotation from being triggered. And this has been a feature of the iPad for quite some time now.

It's been on iPads for awhile but maybe they are bringing it to the 6 plus.

In beta 1 when you selected the switch to do lock rotation it did not add a silent toggle to control center like it does on the iPad's so maybe they removed it until that is fixed.

This should be an ancient feature already existed from iOS 7 right? Both on iPhone and iPad. I remember I use this feature on my iPhone 4 and 6 plus occasionally.

I hope that when it comes back they give us a mute option in the control center where the rotation lock was.

I would assume that's how it should work under normal circumstances (at least for devices that support that).

Yeah, but in b1 if you selected to use the side switch for rotation lock, the icon disappeared from the control center and wasn't replaced with anything.

iPhones had portrait lock rotation from the multitasking tray pre-iOS 7. Then they moved it to control center.

The feature the OP is talking about is setting the silent switch on the side of the phone to lock the device in portrait or landscape.

Then in iOS 7 or 8 I don't remember, iPhone users can change it through settings app. I have changed it many times before iOS 9 is released. Oh, on iPhone.

Yeah, sounds like in beta 1 it was likely a bug/glitch of some sort for the iPhones at least, so hard to say if all the details related to it (as in the ones that should be there if that was an actual feature) would have been there. I guess we'll see if it ever makes a comeback and how it works in that case as far as iPhones are concerned.
