In beta 1 we saw the addition of the option to use the side switch to trigger lock rotation. In beta 2 said option seems to be gone.. Was it ever a feature?

Actually, the option was to use the switch to lock rotation, thereby preventing rotation from being triggered. And this has been a feature of the iPad for quite some time now.

Yes. Apple did say that it would come to iPhone.A feature for the iPhone? I don't remember this being talked about on stage. It's always been there for iPads.
Where was that in the keynote?Yes. Apple did say that it would come to iPhone.
I would assume that's how it should work under normal circumstances (at least for devices that support that).I hope that when it comes back they give us a mute option in the control center where the rotation lock was.
Yeah, but in b1 if you selected to use the side switch for rotation lock, the icon disappeared from the control center and wasn't replaced with anything.I would assume that's how it should work under normal circumstances (at least for devices that support that).
This should be an ancient feature already existed from iOS 7 right? Both on iPhone and iPad. I remember I use this feature on my iPhone 4 and 6 plus occasionally.
Then in iOS 7 or 8 I don't remember, iPhone users can change it through settings app. I have changed it many times before iOS 9 is released. Oh, on iPhone.iPhones had portrait lock rotation from the multitasking tray pre-iOS 7. Then they moved it to control center.
The feature the OP is talking about is setting the silent switch on the side of the phone to lock the device in portrait or landscape.
Yeah, sounds like in beta 1 it was likely a bug/glitch of some sort for the iPhones at least, so hard to say if all the details related to it (as in the ones that should be there if that was an actual feature) would have been there. I guess we'll see if it ever makes a comeback and how it works in that case as far as iPhones are concerned.Yeah, but in b1 if you selected to use the side switch for rotation lock, the icon disappeared from the control center and wasn't replaced with anything.
