Just wanted to give a thanks to Ryan at Apple Canada (1-800-263-3394) for help over the weekend. I purchased my new 20" iMac about 3 weeks ago and kept getting kernal panicks ("You must restart your computer...") every so often. Then I would have the hardest time getting it started again, even from the CD.

After calling support and running the hardware test (hold the "D" key when booting), we found out (in the span of 5 seconds) that I have bad RAM. Yes, my 1GB pre-intalled stick from Apple seems defective. They're sending me a new stick by courier. If it's not the RAM it's the motherboard (5% chance) and I don't want to go there...

I say use the 1-800 number because I spent a few hours trying to correct the problem myself. I even erased and re-installed the OS. The moral of the story:)

When your new computer gives you grief, use the 1-800 number. It was quick and easy :)

And now I'm really considering getting the Applecare!

Applecare is indeed a great thing. I'll be buying the extended warranty for my MB as well, when it gets a bit closer to the 1 year mark.
