As my sig shows, I have 4 devices, which includes 2 iPads. While I have been a long-standing user of the larger ipad, I am a recent user of the Mini.
Let me be frank here: In my use case, the degree of redundancy between the 2 iPads is much higher than what I estimated. This is likely because I have the same use - generally speaking - for both the iPads. It’s just that one is smaller in size than the other. So, does this mean I regret the purchase of the Mini? No, I don’t. I think of the Mini to be a complement to a complement insofar as my digital needs and devices are concerned. By that I mean that the ipad is a complementary device for me; it’s not a primary device. My Thinkpad is my primary device. How do I know? If you take my iPad away, I will be inconvenienced. If you take my Thinkpad away, I will be incapacitated. The Mini then is a complementary device to the larger ipad.
The above being given, I have found that I do like using the Mini to read when out and about. The form factor - as many have mentioned - just lends to the ease of use. I do watch YT on it but not very often as my phone is better suited for that (the phone’s screen is much better). Note taking is another thing that I do but to a lesser extent than on the larger iPad. The Mini works very well for epub and kindle books and Word documents but not so for PDFs. The larger iPad is better with PDFs. So, annotating on PDFs, which is a requirement for my work, is better done on the larger iPad.
So, there you have it. Do I need 2 iPads? No. Do I regret buying the Mini? No. Will I buy it again in the future? Very unlikely. Will I need an iPad in my bag? Absolutely (likely will be the larger one though).
