iPod Use .wma on iMac or convert .wma to .m4a

I just bought my first iMac and am transferring my music files from my PC. I found that I am not able to add .wma files to iTunes on the iMac. I was able to do that on my PC without problems.

Is there a trick on how I can use my .wma files on the iMac?

If not - how can I convert my .wma files to .m4a?
