Hello, how are you?

I am upgrading my iPad air.
I have it since launch in 2013 and it served me very well for all those years.
But now it is getting tired and time for an upgrade.

I now have two options.
I can get a used 9.7 Pro 32gb or a new 9.7 2018 32gb.

The 9.7 Pro was bought in 2016. So it is already over 2 years, so it doesn't have a warranty anymore.
It is in mint condition with no dents, marks or scratches.
Imazing says the battery had 96 cycles and has 82% health.

Price is roughly the same with the pro being 40 euros cheaper.

I mainly use my iPad at home.
My usage is Web browsing and watch videos on YouTube.

My most used apps are chrome, YouTube and Tapatalk.
Those three apps probably account for 85 to 90% of my iPad usage.

I know the strengths of the pro are the laminated screen, 4 speakers and better gpu.

Are those strengths worth it to sway the decision towards the used pro?

What do you think?

Thank you so much.
Cheers

Just a follow up.
I installed imazing on my computer to compare it.
According to it, my iPad Air had over 570 cycle charges but has the health at 81.5%.

That worries me because the pro I have my eyes on has just 90, some cycles but health at 82%.
Is this a major red flag?

Since you're just using it mainly for media consumption I would get the new 2018 model because it will be a new battery.

New Pros lose battery health very quickly. 85-90% at 100 cycles / 6 months isn’t uncommon.

Just sold my iPad Air today.
Got 200 euros for it.
I am really shocked at how apple products retain value!
Now I have to decide if I go for the used 9.7 pro for 260 with cases or go for a new 2018 for 280 plus an extra 20 for a case.

I'm sorry to post off-topic, but I am really surprised by this. My 9.7 Pro on iOS 9 has 93% health after 300 cycles. Seemed poor. I guess it's normal...

Maybe on iOS 9. But onwards of iOS 10 that’s not the case.

I would get the used 9.7 Pro in your case solely for the 4 speakers since you say one of your primary use cases is YouTube videos. The 9.7 Pro is also slightly thinner and lighter than the 2018 iPad (though in real life it's not that noticeable).

I'm sorry, I expressed myself incorrectly: On iOS 9 it's bad, too. 300 cycles on 93% is poor, as well. If on newer iOS versions it's 90% after only 100 cycles then that's beyond horrible.
I mean, 82% in 96 cycles is absolutely horrible. I didn't think it could degrade that badly.
Anyway, I would suggest the 2018 iPad with that battery health.

2018 iPads will be horrible too. Maybe not as bad. But far worse than yours. The only thing is he is buying a used one.

Before I had my 13 month old iPad Pro 10.5 replaced, it had a little over 300 charge cycles. Had 96 percent remaining.
