I have been looking to change my M1 Pro 16” 16GB 1TB to an 14” version with 32GB. It seems that my workload doesn’t maxes out the CPU, but with games perhaps more GPU would be great.

Normally I buy MBP directly from Apple on launch day. I checked the apple site for the M3 Pro and then also checked refurb/ebay/swappa/amazon/b&h. I found the used and discounted pricing rather too good to omit.

It’s very hard to find used MBP with 32GB+ with M2/3 Pros, I guess they are custom build/ordered so people who have ordered them will keep it longer. There are more availability with base models MBP, so the only base model with with 32GB+ are the M2/3 Maxes. So far I got these:

MBP 14” 1TB 36GB

M3 Pro 12/18,
Apple new $2600
Apple Refurb $2380

M3 Max 14/30
Apple new $3200
Apple Refurb $2720
Used $2300-2400 (some still with apple care or warranty)

I also looked at the M2 prices which I didn’t think the price reduction was that much compared to the M3 at the moment. It’s hard to not buy a used M3 Max at the moment.

I am still pondering whether I should wait for the M4 announcements (to see if the M3 Max prices will drop significantly). An M3 Max would easily satisfy my computing needs, I don’t think an M4 Pro full price would be better than the M3 Max, except maybe in battery life?
