Hello, since on eBay it's not hard to find used iPad Pro 10.5 (not 11.5, wrong title lol) still under Apple warranty, at the same price of a new Ipad 2018, what would you suggest to get?

Thanks, what about the 1 more year of support the iPad 2018 comparing to the 2017 Pro should get?

I doubt the 2018 will get any more support than the 2017 Pro. The 2018 uses the A10 chip while the 2017 uses the more powerful variant, the A10X. In effect users that own both from new had the extra year of support by having a current generation chip in the Pro, while the chip was a year old and a half old before it went into the 2018 iPad. Apple seem to consider the price of the device against the length of support, hence budget devices receiving less support from new (like the iPhone 5c.) The 2017 Pro may even be dropped later than the 2018 iPad, due to having double the RAM.

The biggest issue for me would be the risk of the Pro developing the white spot problem. Buying used, you won’t have much if any warranty.

I think he has saying the "pro" 2018 on the context, even trough he said just ipad 2018, anyway, the iPad Pro 2017 gets a cpu benchmark (geekbench) of about 9k, the iPad Pro 2018 gets 17k, CPU wise its almost the double, we need to see the new A13 at september to see how much of a improvement we will see on it. besides, even as it is now that's CPU power for years to come.

but.... what apple is using as the bottleneck for updates is the ammount of RAM, so that means if things continue this way we will see the end of the support of both together as all pros have 4gb of ram, and seeing apple released new devices this year with 3gb of ram, I cay we will see support for both for a long time still. at least 4 years, now we need to see how the pro 1°gen will hold on the 2021 update, as it still has 4gb of ram, but CPU power wise will be way too low compared to newer devices, if CPU proves to be a burden for it we will see it last update on 2020-21, if it continue to be supported 2022+, we can say that both the 2017 an 2018 pros will be able to hold updates for a looong time together (as it will be RAM based).

He said a new iPad 2018, which is exactly what Apple call the 9.7 - iPad with no further word to identify the model.

The poster also mentioned being able to get the 2018 brand new for the same money as the used 2017 Pro. That cannot be true of a new 2018 Pro.

I reckon Apple bases support on overall performance. Some years, it's been RAM, some years it's been chipset.

There are multiple 2GB iPads that will receive the iPadOS/iOS 13 update:
iPad mini 4 : A8
iPad Air 2: A8X
iPad 5th gen: A9
iPad Pro 9.7: A9X
iPad 6th gen: A10

I reckon we'll see pretty soon if Apple cuts off support for the above devices all at the same time with iOS 14+.
