iPod used iPod shuffle. .yeah or near?

Hi,
I am thinking of getting someone an iPod shuffle as a thank you gift, And was looking to spend as little possible. I was on ebay, and figured I would be able to get an iPod shuffle 1 or 2g, case, and charger for ~20$. Would you be offend if you got that? They have an iPhone but don't like to take it to work out. She also has some shuffles but always loses them, so another would be nice? If I loaded it with her favourite music, got her favourite colour as a case and wrapped it would it be nice? Or look cheap?

Favorite color? Then the 1st gen is out of the question, as it was available in only one color.

2nd gen might be a winner; notice how the 4th gen's design went back to the 2nd gen form factor, after the "buttonless" 3rd gen didn't sell so well. Also, make sure you get the largest capacity available; I believe that the 2nd gen maxed out at 2 Gb.
 
I would stick to the 2nd generation. The 1st generation design wasn't all that great compared to the 2nd and 4th generation.

I think I paid like $149 for the 1st gen iPod shuffle I got when they came out. Crazy.

How many shuffles has this person had already? Do they loose them because they are forgetful or just don't care enough to keep track of them?

As far as buying a used shuffle - there isn't much to get scratched up so if you bought one, put some music on it, and then boxed it nice I think that would be fine.

New headphones, though.

Well I was thinking I could get the first generation because they are a little cheaper, then get a case and a sports armband.
If I got the second it would likely be 1gb as it is much cheaper. (1/2 of the cost)
I would get new headphones, just a generic pair of deal extreme or something. The person has a lot but is a tad forgetful. She has 3, but one is legitimately lost like in another country (will likely get it bak next country but that is another story) The other 2 are the crappy 3 generation that she does not really like. I know she likes listening to Music while swimming with a waterproof case but she can't change the song because she can't use the shuffle headphones, just the waterproof ones.
I will probably pick up the following:
-1gb iPod shuffle
-charging dock/cable
-case that is favourite colour
-random accessories
-generic headphones
 
I would be offended by a receiving a used item as a gift.

A shuffle is a nice gift if you have a good idea the person (a) would use it and (b) needs it (i.e., doesn't have something similar already).
 
I would be offended if I got a used item as a gift, it comes accross that the person giving the gift didn't really care, they just bought me an item for as low a price as possible.
 
Why used? They are so cheap new I don't see why you'd bother getting a used one, you'd only save a few bucks at most.

iPod Shuffle has a niche in the market, great for those who have active lifestyles and don't want to ruin their more expensive brothers. If the person fits this description I think a new one would be a good thank you gift, if not its not likely going to be an appealing gift.
 
Yeah, I have to say I would be offended too. I mean a new one is only $49 so its really not that expensive and you can get it on ebay for like $35-$40 new with no tax. If it were like an iPad or something then Id be ok with it since they cost $500 or more but a $49 shuffle I wouldn't want.
