I've recently heard of Usenet as a valuable resource for pretty much everything (especially the Xbox I'm modding) and I was wondering what the best client was for the Mac. How much difference does the client actually make? And how would I get myself started with these newsgroups?

Web based USENET access is best IMHO.

BTW: My first USENET posts that I can still find on Google Groups date back to 1992, and I was lurking for a few years before that.

Ditto. It can be a bit confusing to use at first, but once you get used to it that won't be a problem for you. Just make sure you have Quickpar (parity check utility) and winrar (joining up the file parts).
