User account Log in failure

Pretty self explanatory from the title

After taking the dog for a walk earlier today, I attempted to log back into my account from 'sleep'. My password wouldn't work for some reason, not a case of forgetting it as it's been the same one for quite some time now.

I tried rebooting, and then found that the username field was blank and I had to hit the 'other' option at the log in box

Username and password combo not accepted

I've repaired permissions and verified the disk by booting into the recovery disk, but no joy

Is this a known bug? Or just one of those unlucky things that can happen?

No, I didn't which is why I asked. Your account was likely locked by Apple when your computer checked in as an unauthorized system. I hope you kept a backup of your data. You should avoid running pirated software for this reason.

I do keep back ups, but I've discovered a problem with the back up disk. The last back up I did was approx 2 weeks ago, which isn't a big issue.

I"m just re installing the os. I'm not sure if you can time machine from Lion back to snow leopard or if It's best to drag and drop the files I need and do a clean install of SL

I'm pretty sure Apple can't and doesn't "lock" unauthorized beta testers (non-devs). Plus there's no way to check if the system is authorized or not. All developers use the same install image and it's not bound to a dev account somehow.

I'm pretty sure they can. Each dev account gets allocated one redemption code. Each redemption code can be used on one store account. Each store account is attached to a receipt which is bundled with your download.

Apple could easily check to see if the receipt is duplicated, invalid, or missing. Developers do this all the time with their own apps to prevent piracy. Doesn't surprise me at all.
