User prefs won't stick...

After a log out or a restart my wife's macbook pro (not the new model) all user visual prefs are lost. Goes back to default desktop, dock default setting, etc., not what I have just set.

FYI: User folder is on a 2nd internal hard drive (disk player removed). Checked that ML is using this as the user folder, it is. Even reselected it, restarted, changed prefs, logged out and back to defaults.... something is not right? Thanks (upgraded from Lion)

Update: Just checked my user account on her laptop - My prefs stuck/survived (desktop pic, dock location, etc.) through the upgrade and I do not have the issue her account does?

User prefs problem

I also am experiencing this issue. A second account I made does not. I also had some permission errors so I deleted and re-added my account linked with the old home folder. The permission errors were fixed but prefs still do not stick on reboot for this account.

Mine is fixed, those it was semi laborious...

Permission problem was in the user library(hit go in the menu by holding the option key to reveal library ). I had to go in by hand, command "i" on folders, opening the info window, unlocked it w/ password and changed the permissions - I had to add the actual user (admin no less)and then select "read and write" access to the folder. It was a bit tedious as plenty of the folders (and inside content) had the red "-" sign revealing the permission problem. Obviously I decided against aborting the account and cleaning it up instead. Less data transfer that way.

Thank you so much for responding with a solution. That worked perfectly and the problem was exactly as you said yours was. For anyone who looks at this in the future, some folders didn't clear the permissions error until others were fixed as they were tied together in some way. Make sure you go through each one if some don't lose the red mark.
