the main reason I got the new 6 is to use it as my iPod as well but there are the obvious limitations such as physical buttons, just wondering what people do to get around this?
been thinking for in the car where i have a aux in I could use a headphone splitter and have the headphones in too and use the remote control buttons to skip tracks etc
Is the only way to use the volume buttons on the phone for this with a jailbreak?
any other tips?

Forget using a splitter. You're better off getting an in-line controller/pigtail. Here's one from Amazon that would work well for you.

Also, there are Bluetooth adapters that you could use that have remote controls that could work. Here's a Satechi unit that I was going to get to add BT to my car, but I ended up buying a new car instead, which has BT.
