I have a 2nd generation iPhone SE and would like to have an iPhone 12 Pro to use on weekends. Does anyone know if it is possible to own two iPhones and basically have them function as mirror clones of each other? In other words, at any given time both have the same messages, photos etc on them? Just curious if it is possible to own two iPhones and have them function basically as one.

It depends. It should work for most Apple services like iCloud Fotos and iMessage. Apple Watch can only be paired with one device though.
It‘s not possible for some apps like WhatsApp.

Yes and No. Currently have a 6S and 12mini on the go. Near wi-fi both mirror the same messages, email, calendar, and photos. Everything except notes but only the one with the SIM can be used to make a call of course.

It's fiddly. I currently have two iPhones on the go at the moment, with two different carriers involved. (Hopefully I can retire the old one soon. SMS based 2FA, sigh)

To make them mirror closely I think you have to have iCloud syncing turned on for as many things as possible. e.g. my contacts/address book is correct between phones, but photos appear to be stuck on the phone that took the picture.

Sure you can. I have a my XS as a mirror of my 12PM, achieved by restoring the XS from a 12PM iCloud backup. All my apps but one, including paid for and annual subscription apps, work fine on both phones except for one; my bank (First Direct) will only authorise their app to work on one device, but Apple Pay works on both. With everything than can be synced via iCloud it's all pretty flawless. The one drawback is that your main SIM can only be in one phone at a time so you need to swap it over to make the arrangement seamless.

Seems like WhatsApp and Apple Watch pairing are the main roadblocks to perfect mirroring.
