I am wanting to buy a belkin mini display port to mini display port cable to use my mid-2010 iMac as an external monitor for a 2010 Macbook Air.

I want to use it in Clamshell mode and want to know if the iMac's speakers will be activated when in target screen mode or whether the sound will just come out of the Air's speakers?

2010 MBA can carry audio over MDP so if you choose so, the sound should come from iMac's speakers.

Side-note, why would you want to use your MBA instead of your iMac?

I often work remotely and having files spread between two systems is annoying.

I've never, before now, had a laptop as my primary work machine due to the slowness of the 2.5" HDDs (and the expense of a 256gb ssd!) but now the new Air's are out I'm going to replace my 2.26MBP with one and make it my primary machine.

I'll keep the iMac purely to game on and use as an external display for the air.
