I have a 2010 iMac that's painfully slow to use, but still could be put to good use as a monitor. I ordered a usb-c to mini display port cable so I could do it (I haven't received it yet). However, according to Apple's website, I can only use the iMac as a monitor with another mac using the Target Display Mode. There has to be a way I can use the iMac as a monitor for a Windows computer right? Any suggestions or helpful stories would be greatly appreciated.

Says who?

BTW, you can pull the HDD out of a 2010 and replace it with an SSD and dramatically increase the speed of your iMac. You need an SSD, temp sensor and bracket. I also recommend replacing the NV RAM battery at the same time. A tech should charge an hour to do this but it's not a difficult DIY.

I'm typing this from my 2010.

Yes, Target Display Mode works fine from a Windows computer, I did this years ago with my 2010 iMac and a Lenovo ThinkPad.
