iPhone Using a Iphone 4 on Verizon without a data plan?

Hello everyone, My roomate recently had his brother unlock his Iphone 4 and he did something to it that makes it seem like a regular phone to Verizon. Anyone ever heard of this or know how its done? I would just have his brother do it but he lives out of state. Basically my roomate claims that his Iphone just shows up to verizon as his old phone that wasnt a smart phone.

I doubt it. Carriers know exactly what phone due to IMEI

You can't unlock an iPhone 4 on Verizon. Verizon requires a data plan the moment you add any smartphone to your account.

Even an IMEI unlock on Verizon only allows the use of International sims, not any US sims
Gevey sells a sim interposer to allow the use of CDMA phones on GSM networks, but the carrier will know it is an iPhone
