Using Address Book/iCal vs. Google Contacts and Calendar?

I started using Gmail for my contacts and calendar many years ago. A couple years ago I also started also using iCal and Address Book and never disabled my Google account so everything is synched.

1. Is there any reason to continue to synch all of this with Gmail as long as everything is working with Address Book/iCal?

Unless he ever uses the Google Calendar interface natively. <shudder>

Then his contacts won't be there.
