I have a 2020 M1 MacBook Air
Also a Samsung Android Tablet

I see that there are many different ways to use the android tablet as a second display for the MacBook
aircast
splashtop
duet
and many others ...

I am willing to try both wired and unwired connections. (Hopefully not too expensive?)

Also: I only need to do this a few times a year, when I'm traveling, normally I have two external monitors connected via a Plugable device.

Does anybody have any "hands-on" recommendations? things they have tried that work and don't work?

Thanks very much as always!

Watching.
Ones I've looked at: splashtop, yam display (ipad only), duet ($5/month forever or $150usd!)

Splashtop XDisplay just gives a black screen for me, or a green screen on compatibility mode. No screen recording permission is requested, so maybe that's the problem? There's no info for MacOS on their support page: https://support-splashtopbusiness.splashtop.com/hc/en-us/categories/201530003-Troubleshooting

Deskreen was unreliable.

So I'm still searching too!

Oh thank you for the feedback!

I guess I will try DUET. My situation is that I only need this when I travel - when I am home, I have external monitors connected by a PLUGABLE device, but I can't travel with those. So to pay a monthly charge might make sense, but only for a month here and there.

$150 for forever seems like a waste, one can buy a decent iPad IOS tablet on backmarket for $200 or $300 and those are supposed to instantly work with the MacBook Air, so they tell me?

Thanks again!

Aren't there "portable displays" that will do this... that aren't too expensive?

oh thanks! I had no idea. I will look into it!

I just found this:

Feiasia Portable Monitor Extremely Slim&Lightweight 15.6 Inch 1080P USB-C Laptop HDMI Computer Display Gaming Monitor with Smart Cover&Speakers Travel Monitor for PC Mac Phone Switch

it's certainly worth $67 if it works!

I have a portable display, not much different than the one you linked. Works great while I'm traveling, and when I'm at home it's a 2nd display for my workshop Mac mini.
