Hello! I've searched a few threads and online, but I haven't been able to find a very specific answer to my questions.

I wanted to take my AT&T on-contract iPhone 4s to the UK and purchase a micro-sim card (maybe Vodafone/O2). In the past I've paid for the AT&T international data & calling plan which is quite a bit more expensive than a pay as you go sim card plan from a UK carrier.

I'm not quite sure what my options are, and I have a few questions depending on what option I take.

1) Gevey ultra S sim card to unlock iPhone 4s
From what I understand, the only way you can unlock a 4s with baseband 2.0.12 (other than purchasing an unlocked version) is to use the gevey ultra s sim. I'm thinking of biting the bullet and purchasing one.

My questions are:
a) Provided I can purchase a micro-sim card from a UK carrier (I have family in UK, so there is no issue with credit-checking, as they can buy me a micro-sim) after I insert the sim card + gevey module into my iphone, what settings do I need to change. I read online about changing some APN settings, how can I find this out? The problem is, it's impossible for me to test this out until I go to the UK, and by then, it might be too late, as internet access will be spotty.
b) Can I keep the sim card/gevey sim module for a couple of years, and just top off the micro sim whenever I want to travel to the UK (I/family usually go every year)?
c) When I am back in the US, can I remove the gevey sim module/uk microsim and insert my original sim card without any problems? I might have to change back the APN settings, but that's ok. My question is, will AT&T find out and complain? Do I even need to remove the gevey sim? Can I just keep it in my iPhone forever?
d) Does my iphone 4s need to be jailbroken to use the gevey ultra S sim module? Believe it or not, I wasn't able to find a clear answer to this question.
e) Can the gevey sim (Ultra S) work with iPhone4? The idea is that I can use it in any phone (and maybe future phones?). That way a family member can use it in their iPhone, regardless of if it is a 3G/3GS/4/4s? I think the answer to this question is a resounding NO.

2) Is there any other way to unlock the iPhone 4s? I have a previous iPhone 3G that I could ask AT&T to unlock for free, but that thing is pretty slow/out of date, and painful to use.

Thanks for any help/feedback to these questions. I know I'm asking for a lot!

Sorry about the bump (after 2 days), but since I'm leaving in a few days, I'm not sure how much longer I can wait for the gevey card to be shipped. Am I better off just buying an international plan?

I would highly appreciate any answer to any of these questions :).

You don't have to be jailbroken to make Gevey work. Just pop in the sim imposer with your sim card and it will search the network for you. It takes a min or so to find your network but if it does take longer, hitting the toggle switch on the airplane mode on and then off helps with the network search. As far as the cellular data network to work with your MMS, below is the instructions:

here are your network settings:
T-Mobile Settings for iPhone

How to use T-Mobile on iPhone 4S
From website:
Before beginning, disable Wi-Fi by tapping to Settings > General > Network > Wi-Fi > OFF
•On the iPhone 4S, tap on “Settings” , then tap on “General” and then “Network”
•Tap on “Cellular Data Network”
•Set the following configuration:
APN: epc.tmobile.com

Password: Leave Blank
•Set the following configuration under MMS:

MMS UA Prof URL: http://www.apple.com/mms/uaprof.rdf
•Tap on the Home button to save and exit out of Settings
•Reboot the iPhone 4S
•Launch Safari to test internet connectivity

Here's the guides I use for these:

And the main page, where they will offer it relatively cheap plus shipping:

Thanks, although, the tmobile info might not be so helpful.

I just ordered a gevey ultra s from that website. It's cheaper than buying it directly from applenberry, so that's good :). Should there be any issue buying from geveypro compared to applenberry?

I just need to find an o2 sim card now, an I need to have the correct apn/mms settings.

I'm sorry and youre right about not having tmobile but if you google search, you should find the Cellular data settings for your O2 sim. Geveypro is as good as Applenberry. It will work with any IOS5 version (5.0.1 or 5.1.1). Theyre the only 2 that I would trust.

Sounds good! Thanks again for your help. I figured most carriers in UK are not as picky about sharing APN settings as US carriers, and like you mentioned googling shows some results.

Also it seems like I will need to follow the reset-sim guide when I insert my O2 sim card, which is fine as well.

i am going to the Olympics in a few weeks too.
I got my 4s IMEI unlocked 2 days ago. It is painless and very inexpensive. (cost the same as an ultra s)!! :p

What's your plan for getting a sim card? After the London underground terrorist attacks, they've really cut down on the ability to give non-UK residents the ability to purchase one. They require you to have a valid UK credit card and run a credit check on you. I've heard this is true for the O2 and Vodofone networks... Not sure about Orange/Giff Gaff and some of the others.

Fortunately, I have family over in UK, so I think I can get them to get me a sim card to top off.
