Hello,

I have a 2010 27" iMac quad core and i want to buy a low end 27" iMac as a second screen (after the coming refresh).

any idea if i can do that?

Why do you want an iMac and not a cinema display?

well the cinema display costs 999, the current low end iMac costs $1699, i'd rather pay $700 more and get a computer as well, plus if i get the iMac it will 100% match the look of my current iMac.

@simsaladimbamba: thanks for the feedback, I was trying to check if the problem was from my ISP or the host, it seems from host. contacting them now :)

that is madnes!!! It will make more heat, use more power, make more noise as the computer need to be on fully in TDM!

Can you not spend the $700 on memory and an SSD for your iMac assuming you have a new model?!

I already have 16GB ram on my iMac and an SSD + HDD option.

Just to be clear, when i get the 2nd imac or a cinema display, the 2nd monitor will it add more view space or just mirror what ever im seeing ? sorry but i've never tried using 2 monitors.

It will add additional view space, as the iMac can support 2560 x 1600 pixel on an external display plus its internal resolution of 2560 x 1440.

save some more money; go for the low-end 27" refurb, only $1269. you get the computer for only $270.
