Using Apple TV as a media Harddrive ?? !!

I bought the 160GB Apple TV and was hoping that somehow I could use this device as my central media storage device.
I was told in the Apple store that its possible but I just dont know how.
My current setup is that Apple TV is synced to my MBP which works but is not what I really want.

Here is what I wanna do:

- Copy all my music (and movies and TV shows) to the Apple TV.
- Then delete all those files from my Macbook to save the harddrive space.
- Sync my IPhone and IPod off the Apple TVs content
- Access Apple TVs content on my MBP

Is this setup possible at all? I mean whats the point of having a huge Apple TV harddrive when you always need the exact mirrored content on your Macbook as well??
Any help would be much appreciated.

No, I don't think this is possible. It's definitely not possible to sync your phone with the Apple TV.

Of course I would only want the phone to sync to the Apple TVs library (or playlists) when its connected to the Macbook.
I could live without that function tho.

So I always have to have the same content on my Macbook?? That would suck.

The content needs to be either on your local drive or an external drive for it to sync with your iPods.

You could delete the content from your MacBook and turn off automatic syncing, but if you wanted to add more stuff it'd be difficult.

Sorry, they really should not have told you that at the store. At the moment, Apple really does not have any product that meets the media center criteria. A mac mini would be more along the lines of what you want, however, its far more expensive, and requires mouse/keyboard to interact with the itunes store...

We are all hoping for a true mac media center someday. Right now, it doesn't exist. The closest possible discription of the apple tv is a media extender.

It seems like I might have found the solution.
I found this software called ATVFlash that adds a lot of features to the Apple TV Box by also maintaining the original functions. It basically just adds functions to the existing menu and it seems it does exactly what I wanna do.
It costs 49$ which is a bit a pain but at least it will make it work the way I want it to.
