Using Apple TV with a 3g wireless card

I live outside of the world of hi-speed internet and have found that the Sprint 3g card is an excellent option for getting internet at my farm.

The question is, has anybody ever rigged one of these up with an Apple TV. I called the apple sales department who assured me this would work, but I would love to hear from anybody who has actually done this.

To add to the problem, I have a PC Express 3g card, not the USB one. I've bought an adaptor. Again, does anybody have any experience with this sort of thing?

They told you a data card would work with an Apple TV?

Perhaps they meant that if you have a machine with a wireless card connected to the internet using 3G, then you could setup your wireless as an access point.

I travel with my AppleTV a lot, and found some info on this out by experimenting. I have a 3G HSDPA modem from AT&T that I use with my laptop. I configured my laptop to share that connection as an ad-hoc network, which essentially bridged the 3G wireless connection over the 802.11 wireless in the laptop, creating an ad-hoc network. But apparently the AppleTV will only connect to wireless networks in infrastructure mode, NOT ad-hoc. (FWIW, the iPhone WILL connect, however.) The only way I've found to do it is to buy a 3G router, such as the LinkSys WRT54G3G-AT (works with AT&T). These routers typically only work with the PC card like you've got (PCMCIA type), NOT USB ones.
