I currently have my Apple TV hooked up to a 42 inch LCD TV and am using the Remote App on my Iphone to control it. I only use it for playing music.

Now that I have the remote App, I don't need to be able to see the Apple TV display on the TV, and would prefer not to.

Does anyone know if it is possible to hook the Apple TV up to say some powered speakers or a home cinema system and disconnect it totally from the TV?

The reason I have having doubts is that when you select the HDMI input on the TV,this appears to cause the Apple TV unit to boot up, so I wonder if it has to be connected to something via HDMI?

Thanks
Mark

Have you tried unplugging the hdmi cable to see if it works?

I thought about that, but if i unplug the HDMI cable, there is no output, so there would be no way of knowing if it is working or not......

Sure it will work, but you need an audio cable attached to the ATv and your speakers. I did that before I bought my tv.

Does work but you need to leave it turned on.
