Does anyone have any experience with this? My employer will pay for either cell phone service or mobile card service. I figure if I just get a blackberry with Sprint EVDO I can get the best of both worlds if I can use it as a modem.

You mention a mobile broadband card. I have been using a Sprint USB broadband card for a year and a half now and have been extremely pleased. My connection speed constantly tests out at about 1.3 MB download and my service has never dropped and I have always been able to connect. With OS X you can also enable internet sharing to be able to share the 3G connection with another computer and even the iPhone.

I don't have any experience with a Blackberry.

Have you tried using iChat video or Skype with it? Does it work well? Or too choppy? I always hear that latency is too high for this sort of thing.

I have visions of "working" during a road trip (w/ someone else drive) so as not to waste vacation days :D

I have never used iChat or my iSight camera and have no need to so I can't answer your question.
