Im about to install windows vista premium on a SSD MBA.

Im going to use Vista to run a few windows only games (not hardcore gaming, just strategy games) and maybe to use microsoft word. OS X will still be my main OS (internet, itunes, ichat, etc)

How should i partition my hard drive? Ive only got about 36 GB left between os x and vista. I was thinking maybe 16-19 for vista?

Also, is bootcamp a self-explanatory install for vista, or will i have trouble installing it without printing a step by step instruction guide?

Thanks

You see the box on the upper right corner with a "Search Forums" button next to it? Type in Boot camp and hit search forums.

I would not install Vista on MBA, because basic Vista install takes about 15-20gigs.

Funny, I followed your advice and did a search and this was one of the most relevant forums that popped up. I also need advice regarding boot camp and vista on a macbook air and am hoping someone responds with a little more direction other than to do a search.

I also wouldn't follow this gentlemans advice about not putting vista on an air. However, I would caution you to make sure you won't regret not having the hard drive space after you do add Vista because I believe Vista has a minimum of 40GB of space needed for the partition. I'd research into that but I believe I read that somewhere on micrsofts website.

I already partitioned it to only 17 GB, and it actually runs GREAT. So great that it blows away the vista performance of my Dell! Im only going to use it to run a few low end graphics games and maybe word, so i think it will be fine.

Also, thanks for defending people just looking for simple answers. Im always browsing the site and now i finally have a mac. Its annoying and unnecessary for a few wise asses to act greater than thou and give you a link which doesnt actually answer the question, its almost like they're out to be an ******.

Great to hear it is working and also that i dont need to partition 50% of my hard drive space to it either! Any idea on how large the vista install was? Was it 15GB like quoted above or a little less?

Most people on macrumors are really helpful and will give you a straightforward answer even if it can be found elsewhere. Usually it takes longer for you (or me) to find the answer searching the forums than it does for someone who is killing time on the internet and loves macs to give us a hand! :p

I still have around 6 GB left, even after installing a light game, so I guess it takes up about 9-10 GB...however some useless (actually overlapping) programs are on vista like movie makers, dvd programs, etc that are already on leopard and can probably be deleted. Maybe you can get an extra 1-2 GB out of it.
