Hi guys,

I'm new to Mac. Been using iPhones for years though. Quick question (though I might have many more)!.....

If I have a few users on my iMac.....and I downloaded Spotify, for example (from the web, not the App Store), on one of them.....can I use this program on another user's account on the computer without having to download it again? If we keep downloading some of the same program, it is just simply using more memory to access the same thing. Thanks in advance!

Sure the default install location is in the /Applications folder that can be accessed by all users. So if user A installs the app there, user B will also be able to see it in that same folder and use the app. Each use will need their own Spotify account though (or they could both use the same but it will need to be reentered in each account).

In general - whether you get applications from the web or the app store, the application goes in the globally accessible /Applications folder - so any user can use them.

The settings though are saved per user - in the users ~/LibraryApplication Support folder - so that each user can maintain their own settings for the application

Most Apps are installed for all users to use. I believe the Application folder is shared between all users. Sometimes, but rarely, installation files allow you to chose to install for 'only this user.'
