Hi Folks

Am I going mad or a files stored on Google Drive not accessible within Word on the iPad? I’ve tried everything I can see to do to add it as a path but it never shows up? Am I missing something? Within Outlook for iPadOS I can attach but not edit from Word.

Thanks

It might be a bug with either application.

I don’t think it’s a bug that both iCloud and Drive are not directly accessible in Word or Excel etc. There are over a dozen other cloud services available to be added into these apps for direct access.

The workaround that I have used is to go to the open dialogue in Word and pick Files App under Other Locations. From there iCloud and Drive can be accessed (assuming you’ve added Drive to Files previously). If I recall it does not allow direct edit this way so I end up saving the file On My iPad and then copying it back to Drive later or exporting it there via share (I forget which, as I haven’t done this in a while).

Hope that helps.

Unless you have some weird restrictions somewhere, you can definitely edit files in Drive directly through the Files app in Word, I do it pretty regularly.

Actually, yeah. It is more likely a restriction of some sort.

It’s me and how I was testing this morning. Failed to realize the reason I couldn’t directly edit wasn’t because of Drive but because the file I chose to test with was in an older format with an older .doc extension.

Word’s not my thing on iOS, it merely exists on my iPad so that I can review attachments to email but anytime I really need to do office app work I’ll use my laptop instead.
