I'd like to be able to continue browsing Google Maps while offline.

Is it possible to download a portion of Google Maps (in my case, the Ontario region) and store it permanently in my 8 GB model iPhone so that I do not require WIFI or an active account with my carrier?

If this isn't possible, are there any other offline map viewers I can use?

Thank you in advance.

Not possible with the built in maps, although I believe it caches your actual route directions.

You'd have to pay $35-100 for apps from Copilot Live, Navigon, or TomTom. Those maps also take up 1.2-1.5gb of storage. Plus you also get fancy navigation with those apps, although personally I'm waiting for Google Navigation to come to the iPhone next year, most likely with OS 4.0, which I've read caches the maps between dead zones while driving.
