Using Handbrake to convert movies to iPhone help/advice.

I'm new to the Handbrake world. I know the process, but I'm not so certain about the details. My main concern is copyright protection. Is there any issue with using handbrake on a DVD that I rented and that has copyright protection? Thanks in advance. Please respond soon!

Rented DVD's are the same as DVD's you buy. They have the same copy protection. You will have no problems copying them. At least from my experience.

How about you get a job and buy those discs, rather than stealing the content?

Well Handbrake is a "ripping" application, its main point is to rip dvds to other formats. All official dvds have protection to keep them from being easily ripped, but Handbake does this for you. Either way its illegal to rip dvds, but no one can find out that you did. Its better if the dvd is your own, but either way its the same thing you are doing. I'm not saying ripping is bad and you'll get caught its just that ripping is ripping so go ahead and rip most any dvd you want. Its a matter of preference, if you don't care about being against the law go ahead and rip it. There is no way they can tell you ripped a dvd so you'll be fine.

The movie that I want is unavailable on iTunes and came out in 2006, so I doubt it ever will be. I've only used handbrake one other time for the same reason. Everything else that I have on my iPod, iPhone, and iMac has been purchased from the iTunes store. (over 800$ worth)

Copy Right Protection??

So I keep seeing all over the Internet that lots of ppl are using Handbrake to rip from the cd to hd. Then simply 'drag and drop' into iTunes. Well I just downloaded a fresh (updated) copy and ripped a DVD. Yet the file that I drag and drop into iTunes has choppy audio & video. I'm using the iPhone & iTouch preset. I have also verified settings as described by many users. I am just wanting to put some of my old DVDs on my iPhone. Any thoughts??? I know this is not supposed to be that hard. Thanks~

Not every movie can be copied. Look for it. I've had problems with american gangster. I've read problem about some of the james bond's movies too

That doesn't make it right. If you at least bought the actual DVD then ripped it you could make an argument in court. I am not saying it is absolutely legal. But renting the movie for a buck or two then copying it just seems worse. I think most jurors and judges would look at it the same way.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. You could try upping the bitrate or something.
