Hello to all on the forum. I am investigating upgrading my mac pro 2009 to 5690 3.46Ghz processors. I have com across IBM branded Xenon X5690's at a decent price the model number is 81Y6046. I was wondering about their compatibility and suitability. Anyone ever use IBM branded Xenon's with this model number? Thank in advance for your advice and suggestions.

Yes I was just curious if it maintained the same specs as any other X5690 and consequently if it was ok to use for a mac pro they seem to be taken from a server and they say not for pc use. I've been reading as much as I can and it seems you have to be concerned about the kind of processor you use even if it says x5690. I just haven't seen specifically IBM branded stuff before.

I've purchased some HP-branded X5690s in the past, and installed them in some of our own 2009-2012 Mac Pros without any issues.
