A relatively new Mac Pro user here in need of direction regarding iCloud storage. I have downloaded a lot of music to Mac Pro and synced with my iPod, 6th gen. How do I get this backed up on the cloud? I have looked through various areas, and even on the cloud icon on my mac, and there is no music there, or even the ability to "check" music to be backed up. It is probably real simple, but I seem to be missing the mark here. Thx

Kinda new myself so may not understand the question. But, when I used icloud drive I just copied what I wanted to put there over to the icloud drive icon on left panel on my macbook. The reason I stopped using icloud drive was because it added the files onto the computer as well. Upping my macbook storage. I needed a web based storage like onedrive. You can upload from the cloud. But, I had better luck with large files like HD movies by copying them to the icon and then letting them upload. Hope that helps.

Thanks rugmank, let me try that. Like you, I am concerned about the amount of storage space on my SSD. Ideally, would like to transfer all this to an ext hdd, but am having to set through eat approach as iCloud just duplicates what on SSD. Always looking for an easier option. Some things on Mac are intuitive, others are just plain hard to decipher, for an ex PC person.

I think iCloud only cares about music with regards to files. The way Apple backs up music as songs is iCloud music library (a separate service formerly known as iTunes match).

I understand your confusion, too. The Apple offering in this regard is far behind and extremely confusing.

I got 3 bu's. Time Machine, Time Capsule, and a 2tb Lacie Porsche ext hd. Plus I just trailed Carbon Copy Cloner and made a bootable clone. Tested it and works fine. Will buy it.

I do like OneDrive so far. Web based and streams movies back to iPhone almost immediately. Contemplating upgrading storage. Not sure I need more bu's though. :)
[doublepost=1454896759][/doublepost]OP, you can probably find some tutorials online on the macbook. I am lucky as my son and his wife have had Apple products for 15 years or more. Great info source. And occasionally get a free hand-me-down, like my previous iMac 2008.

If you want everything backed up to the cloud, you can subscribe to iTunes Match. Your entire library (up to 100,000 songs) is scanned and matched in iTunes, and songs that aren't in their library are uploaded. It's kind of like having a backup, but not exactly the same.
