So, I, like many of you here am planning to upgrade to lion when it comes out. From what I can tell, there are two possible options for a clean install:

1.) Reinstall 10.6, iLife, then update and then install Lion

2.) Buy Lion on the app store, use the dmg method to make an install disk

I want to do the second option because it seems more direct but I have no idea if the iLife restore DVD that came with my macbook would install correctly in Lion.

Has anyone tried doing this? I would really like to know if it works.

iLife installs just fine on Lion.

^^ Shouldn't matter. Even if you use the restore disc that came with your Mac to install just iLife after doing a clean install, you can install just iLife. However, you will want to update iPhoto 9.0.0 to the latest version to avoid it toasting your iPhoto library.

When I bought SL for my 2007 aluminum iMac, I did a clean install, then used the restore disc to install iLife since there isn't one on SL, then I downloaded the copy of iMovie HD 6.0.2 from Apple which needed that particular version if iLife to authenticate and then upgraded the rest of the iLife Suite to iLife '09. Still running '09 as I was waiting for a new machine to get iLife '11. Plan on getting a 27" mid 2011 iMac when they actually ship with Lion. Then I get a clean install.
