Hi, I just got Comcast and would like to use my iMac as the TV screen. I heard that there are those adapters that convert the cable wire from the Cable box to USB.

Can anyone please elaborate on this, and how it works.

Also, does anybody have suggestions for good converters?

Thanks

there are a lot of threads asking the same question, in different ways. Look for the ones asking about XBOX or PS3. They will all be connected the same way as a cable box assuming its an HD box using HDMI.

You can always use a TV tuner and plug the cable straight to the tuner (instead from the box to the tuner). I have comcast (just basic cable) and use a Haupage WinTV tuner + EyeTV software to watch TV on mac. I can view the free HDTV channels. The nonfree ones are encrypted so they won't play. Since you have to turn on the iMac to use it as a monitor anyway, this is a good solution.

Using the cable box would only help to view the encrypted channels (which is probably what you want anyway) but it might be a more expensive solution.
