Hi,

I have plugged a toslink cable between my 5.1 amplifier and my iMac, but I would like to be able to find a software solution that would let me switch between digital out and the internal iMac speakers (which are quite good actually!)

I know it is a Mac OS driver limitation since Windows 7 (via Bootcamp) let me choose the output. In Mac OS once I plugg something, "Internal speakers" output option disappear from sound preferences, audio midi setup, HalLAB, .... This causes unnecessary wear and tear on the audio port from constantly inserting and removing the cable to switch from built in speakers to external audio system.

I tried CHUDSwitch but it doesn't work on 2010 iMac. First AzaliaController seems to be HADController now, then the reggie_se instructions do not work (and I cant find the Cirrus Logic CS4206A (AB24) specifications)

I need some help please :)

Some news ?

Hi did you get some news about an app or prefspane that can be used to do this ?
i can't believe it's not possible to do this...
Regards

Out of curiosity. as good as the internal speakers are, why would you want to use them at all if you've got a 5.1 amp and good speakers?!

I've been using a 5.1 amp connected by toslink since I got my first iMac and have never once felt the urge to unplug it in favor of the internal speakers. I'm wondering what the motivation might be there.

So far as I know, there IS no way in OS X to accomplish this anyway. If you want to use your internal speakers you need to unplug the toslink cable.

However, if you get USB speakers or plug in USB headphones it will allow you to switch to those while the toslink is still connected.
