is there a way to use bluetooth or the iphone cable to run my MBPs internet off edge?

ive seen people do it on the bus with blackberrys and stuff...

and when i would sync my razr with my computer it would ask me if i wanted to use the razr internet when another source was not available/...

with any other phone i would never do it but i pay for unlimited internet with this thing so i want to exploit that hahah

i found this site and have been trying to get it to work

but its gettign stuck
http://www.mac-dvd.com/mac-guide/how-to-use-iphone-internet-connection-on-computer.html

it says to use the command line application of your choice and trype in ssh -ND 9999 root@YourIPAddress with my ip adress of course...

ive been tryign to use terminal, i dont relaly know what program to try other then that and its saying the opertation has timed out so i cant move on...

what should i do?

read my post, and ill be posting a guide on my site within minutes...

web.mac.com/brandch

EDIT* its up there.

im typing exactly what you said and im getting this

"christopher-zeppieris-computer:~ Chris$ ssh -ND 9999 root@169.254.215.4
ssh: connect to host 169.254.215.4 port 22: Operation timed out
christopher-zeppieris-computer:~ Chris$ "

do i need to do this process everytime i want to use the internet through my phone??

shoul the terminal read somethign after i type into my password, it just came up with

"channel 9: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed
channel 3: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed
channel 3: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed
channel 4: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed"

that normal?

after you type your password dont type anything else, just minimize the window (DONT CLOSE IT)

and yes you must type the (OMG) one line into the terminal everytime.

i have no problem doing it, just making sure so i can do this all again,

and once i set up that proxy thing in safari itll work all th time automatically i assume,

thanks alot for your help

What password are we supposed to type in? Nothing seems to work.
Your SSH password

the defaults are
FW 1.0.2 - dottie
FW 1.1.1-1.1.2 - alpine

or whatever you had set it to.

to change it, install mobile terminal and enter "passwd"

when you are finished with your "tethering session" or whatever you'd like to call it, you have to uncheck the SOCKS proxy box for your computer to recognize another internet connection.

... open failed :(

Hi,
I have the same problem...

MyMacBook:~ Fabiobianco$ ssh -ND 9999 root@169.254.131.88
root@169.254.131.88's password:
Permission denied, please try again.
root@169.254.131.88's password:
channel 2: open failed: administratively prohibited:
channel 2: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed
channel 2: open failed: administratively prohibited: open failed

what can I do?
