Any info on how to use IRC to share files. As in, what to look for in all the channels, that sort of thing.

I've had at least 500 hours in IRC chat room experience, and never once have I seen a way to do file transfers over IRC. The closest thing to file sharing over IRC is putting up links to redistributed content. Otherwise, use AIM or an FTP server (or an SFTP server) for s*** like that. I'm implying with this whole ordeal that we're talking about how to share legal files, not redistributed ones without permission.

You must be quite an idler then... IRC has a file transfer protocol known as DCC built into it (at least most clients do). I'm not a heavy user of DCC, but I know it is resumable and operates much like an AIM file transfer. Someone else may be able to provide you with some networks/channels for file sharing.

I'm actually quite not an idler. I've had 7514 replies in MacRumors' own chat room and about 200 others in the chat room for a gaming forum. My chat client is X-Chat Aqua. Maybe that's why I never see file transfers going on.

your just not pursuing illegal things cobra ..

most files on irc are illegal .... people should nto be sharing places to go for this type of stuff as it violates the policies of the site.

plus irc is not for noobs, its one of those figure it out yourslef type systems or don't do it at all.

talking about IRC sharing files isn't against the policy, but directly talking about doing illegal things would (like, hey guys, where can i download the latest yellowcard album?). But, you're exactly right, IRC is not something that you can be taught, you have to put a lot of time into learning the ins and outs. It took me over a year to become an IRCop on my old network... took months just to get the hang of it, and that was with the network programmers guiding me through it...

But, if you were going to look for things, undernet is quite a big network. won't say any channel names, because that *would* violate the policies...
