Using Lightroom with iPhoto as primary photo organizer

I want to import my photos into iPhoto first, and then have Lightroom reference my photos in iPhoto. Is there a way to do this without importing all the thumbnails and the like that iPhoto creates?

Other (non-optimal) solutions I can imagine would be to import into Lightroom first, and then export into iPhoto. Or just use Aperture.
