I'd really appreciate help. Considering buying a base Studio and a MBA, or a 14" MBP M1Max and using my current (single) monitor. I imagined all I'd need to do is plug my MBP into a single cable and everything would be connected seamlessly - my monitor, external SDD, charging accessories etc. But I just saw a Youtube video that reviewd a bunch of docks and they all seemed so glitchy. I just don't want to be stuck with issues.. Anyone with experience?

I'm using my HP U28 monitor as my dock for my 14" MBP - it supplies power, and has two USB-A ports for accessories. I've not tried plugging an external SSD into the monitor but it should work (albeit limited to 5 gbps bandwidth). So far no issues with this setup. There are probably other threads discussing docks with the new MBP's.

I have

Anker TB3 mini Dock
Kensington Thunderbolt 4 Dock
Anker Thunderbolt 4 Hub
Caldigit Element Thunderbolt 4 Hub

The Caldigit has been the most reliable for me. Every device has worked when plugged in. Can’t say the same for the other 3. Tons of power at each port. I have my display connected via a USB C to HDMI cable, so not having a dedicated display port was not a big deal. If the ports make sense for you, I highly recommend the CalDigit Element.

Thanks for that! I'll check it out for sure!
