Using @me account for AppleID

Hi, have just made the move from Hotmail to Me. Whereas my Apple ID for app store etc has always been -----@hotmail.com, have just gone to change it to me new -----@me.com address and it says that this can't be done.

Why is this?

Is there a way to do it? It's really annoying.

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

No, you can't right now. They've never said why, that's just the way it is.

Ah bummer - seems so stupid, Apple need to sort it out.

I changed my @.com.au to @me.com when me.com addresses where introduced. A nice guy in India changed it for me, but i still was unable to access apps i bought under the old name.

So you did manage to change your AppleID to your @me address? Although your purchase history did not carry over? How did you go about changing your AppleID to your @me address?

I just asked nicely. This must have been in 2008 after mobile me was introduced. Maybe the policy has changed since then.

There were rumors that right after the 4S came out they were gonna let people merge appleids shame it never was released though
