Using old Mac Mini to act as a remote video display

Okay, I'm rebuilding my system based around a MacBopok Pro.

I'm going to be driving a main monitor (now 1080P, but will evetually get a bigger one) and a 720P (maybe a 1080P later) TV for watching videos mainly.

The MBP can drive the 1080P monitor, but how best to handle the TV?

I can get a USB to 1080P HDMI box (such as aluratek's http://aluratek.com/usb-to-hdmi-1080p-adapter-with-audio).

But I also have a old MacMini. Is there software available to allow me to send video from my MBP to the Mini so it acts like a third monitor for the MBP?
I'd rather not have to only use a particular video player, I'd rather the mini jus tlook like another monitor as far as the MBP is concerned?

Possible or any suggestions how best to do this?

As an added bonus, I could setup the Mini as a server.

AirDisplay has a client for Mac, which allows you to use a Mac as a display for another Mac or Windows system. Never tried it.

But... silly question... which side does the AirDisplay client form the Mac App Store sit on? The main computer (new MBP) or the slave computer (mini)?

Not a lot of documentaiton on their site.

It's somewhat important since the client doesn't run on Lion with a 9400 graphics card (that my old mini has).

The piece you pay for, either Mac, iPhone or iPad is the 'receiver' which displays your slave screen. The software you install on the main Mac is free, although it's useless on its own.

Thanks. That wll work for me then if I keep snow leopard on the mini for the remote display.
