I have done some searching to find the answer to this - in the past I have popped a nano SIM card out of an old phone and used it in a new, with no problems I am aware of. I have seen people say though, that if a SIM card is too old it should not be used in a new phone - get a new SIM card and have that activated on your phone number. Why is this, is there new/different information on it, or is it that it won't work optimally with the same carrier on a newer phone? Is this just an old wives tale, or is it just concern that the old SIM card may be physically damaged and fail?

I am trying to figure out when it is not advisable to transfer a SIM card to a new phone, assuming of course that the size (nano) is the same.

Thanks!

I have had no problem doing that, as long as it's with the same carrier. Just remember, many of the carriers lock the iPhone for the first 60 days to their carrier. At least Verizon does.
