Hey all,
I was looking at my Palm m130 today and had an idea. Is it possible to use the Palm's Ifrared port as an Ir port for my iBook or more so OS X via the usb cable?
I've seen usb Ir adapters so usb connection to a palm's Ir could maybe happen? Not sure of the internals of palms, so any feedback would be great.
I would like to be able to use it to get the Ir on my Nokia syncing address books and SMS, etc thourgh the palms hardware. I guess I just need a bit of software that would do this?

I tried this a couple of years ago with the IR port on a Centris 610. When it worked, it was very, very slow; but it didn't work reliably. I emailed Palm about it, and they replied that they didn't support the use of infrared syncing with a Mac. When I told them it worked, but very slowly, they told me to go ahead if I liked. They said the problem was Apple's IR drivers (this was in Mac OS 8.1, I would guess).

In the Mac OS X era, things may be better. But I have to point out that the baud rate for infrared is like 1200 or 9600, so it will always be much slower than a cable.

Oops! I now see that what you're asking about is going THROUGH the Palm to the IR port, not syncing the Palm with IR. I doubt the Palm has that kind of capability in its OS, but let everyone know if you get it working.
