using photo stream to full efficiency/potential

I have a bunch of photos on my iphone that are in my photostream that I am viewing on my iPad.

I would LOVE it if the iPad would show which photos from the photostream I have already saved to camera roll, so that I don't duplicate photos ... I thought it did this, but apparantly not???
